I am already beginning the job hunt process. This is one of the biggest question marks of the whole experience. I am getting my resume updated and looking all fancy and starting to apply for positions.

Ugh…looking for a job is the worst job to have.

Another of my favorite websites to read (while avoiding work) is Overheard in New York. Minneapolis has one too, but the New York ones are typically a little more out-there. I especially love when they have ones that refer to the Subway or other uniquely New York things….like the Wednesday one-liners all about conductors and trains below…classics!

Conductor: This is an express, uptown C train. You heard right: an express C train. Next stop: 125th Street. If you need local service on the Upper West Side, please transfer across the platform to the D, as in “Daddy done did it” or B, as in “bad boy Bobby Brown” train.
–C train, 59th St

Conductor: This is a Brooklyn bound B train. Like bitch.
–B train

Conductor: Never give up on life. Keep hope alive. This is 30th Avenue.

A hispanic/spanish/latin mini-mart, kind of like a 7-11, but usually smaller and more like a liquor store atmosphere. Commonly used term on the east coast, especially in the New York City region, where you will find many of these. The word came from the actual spanish word for “grocery store” – la bodega.

One thing that is typical of NYC living is their abundance of bodegas. You can’t turn your head to the left or right on any street without seeing at least one. Their convenience is key…and you can avoid having to wait in line at the overpacked Target/Trader Joe’s/Whole Foods. It is perfect for running across the street to pick up a few things.

Peas & Pickles was the bodega of choice for myself and my friends when I did a semester in Brooklyn Heights.
